The Meteor South Congress
Ian from Green Guild entrusted us with the task of installing a low-slope single-ply TPO roof. To ensure a seamless and aesthetically pleasing result, we opted for a low-rise foam adhesion system, avoiding the need for any fasteners penetrating the roof deck. This approach was essential to maintain a clean and customer-friendly appearance that harmonized perfectly with the overall design.
- Date: June 1 2019
- Address: 2110 S Congress Ave, Austin, TX 78704
- Project Type: Commercial TPO installation
Scope of work
- Roof Removal: The project begins with the removal of the old built-up roofing material, ensuring a clean slate for the new installation.
- TPO Roof Installation: A 60 mil TPO membrane is fully adhered to the roof substrate. TPO is a durable and energy-efficient roofing material.
- Tapered Poly Iso System: A tapered polyiso insulation system is installed to ensure proper drainage and prevent ponding on the roof.
- 5″ Poly Iso Insulation (LTTR 28.8): The roofing system includes 5 inches of polyiso insulation with an LTTR (Long-Term Thermal Resistance) value of 28.8. This enhances energy efficiency and climate control.
- Metal Awning and Downspouts: A metal awning is installed to provide shelter or shade, and downspouts are put in place to manage rainwater runoff effectively.
- A parapet cap is installed to provide a finished and protective edge to the parapet walls.
The installation of a GAF 60 mil TPO roofing system, accompanied by 5 inches of insulation and a tapered poly iso system, represents a comprehensive and energy-efficient roofing solution. Here’s a breakdown of the key components and benefits of this roofing system:
- GAF 60 mil TPO (Thermoplastic Olefin): TPO is a highly durable and energy-efficient roofing membrane. Its reflective surface helps reduce heat absorption, making it an excellent choice for energy-conscious building owners. It is also known for its resistance to UV rays, chemicals, and punctures, ensuring long-lasting protection for your property.
- 5 Inches of Insulation: Adequate insulation is crucial for energy efficiency and climate control. With 5 inches of insulation, this roofing system provides exceptional thermal resistance, helping to maintain a consistent indoor temperature and reduce heating and cooling costs.
- Tapered Poly Iso System: The tapered poly iso system is designed to provide proper drainage on low-slope roofs. It ensures that water is efficiently channeled away from the roof’s surface, preventing ponding and potential water damage. This system enhances the longevity of the roofing membrane.
- Energy Efficiency: The combination of the TPO membrane and insulation results in an energy-efficient roofing system. It helps reduce heat transfer, keeping the interior cooler in hot weather and warmer during cold spells. This can lead to significant energy savings over time.
- Durability and Longevity: GAF’s 60 mil TPO membrane, when installed correctly, offers excellent durability and a long lifespan. Paired with proper insulation and drainage, this roofing system can withstand various weather conditions and provide reliable protection for years to come.
- Environmental Benefits: The reflective properties of TPO membranes contribute to reducing the heat island effect in urban areas and help lower carbon emissions. Additionally, the energy efficiency of the roofing system aligns with sustainability goals and may qualify for energy-efficient roofing incentives.
In summary, the installation of a GAF 60 mil TPO roofing system with 5 inches of insulation and a tapered poly iso system is a robust roofing solution that combines durability, energy efficiency, and proper drainage. It not only provides reliable protection for your property but also offers potential long-term cost savings and environmental benefit
